Sony Layoffs Job Cut: layoff 320 France employees

It's the Japanese Electonic giant calle dSony Corporation which has decided to go for a layoffs in France. This bad news for the Sony employees came on Friday when the company officially declared that it has decided to shut down the factory and go for a jobcut.


Sony has decided to close down its factory which is making making videotapes in France

The primary reason for closing down this factory is due to declining global demands of video tapes. WIth the advent of digital media, who would like to carry on with the traditional videotapes.

The fate of the factory's 320 workers remained unclear, but Sony spokesman Shusuke Kanai has said the company was doing its utmost to help them after the closure.

"Global demand for videotapes has been declining as people are switching from videotapes to discs," Kanai said. Sony aims to close the factory, located south of Bordeaux, by the end of March next year.

Sony makes about 80% of its sales overseas. The Japanese electronics giant has slashed its full-year earnings projection due to weak consumer demand and a stronger yen. For the fiscal year through March 2009, Sony is expecting a 150 billion yen ($1.6 billion) profit, down 59% from the previous year.
